A: Another way to prevent sagging is to keep the gate as lightweight as possible and create a small notch in the header and footer for the brace to sit in, so that the compression from the header is directly transferred into the footer by the hinges.

A: Allow 4.5 to 5 inches between the post and gate for hinges and pins. Optional f ller blocks can be installed with lag bolts to reduce this opening (see photograph on left). Double gates will require a throw over gate loop and or drop rods. Allow 1/2 to one inch between double gates .

A: How long will my metal gates last? Your key questions ...
To be a bit more specific, at the very least they'll last a few decades, and in fact it's not uncommon for metal gates to last 70 years or more.

A: Bracing a wide fence gate involves installing diagonal braces to prevent sagging. Start by measuring and cutting the frame pieces to size, ensuring they are square. Then, install diagonal braces from the bottom hinge side to the top latch side using exterior-grade screws.

A: This is by far one of the most common questions we're asked – to the extent that we even have an entire post on it. To keep the answer quick and simple though: metal gates and railings will often last decades, and it's not unusual for them to last a lifetime (70 years or more).

A: Quite simply, because it's the ultimate low-maintenance finish, offering maximum protection, durability and longevity for your wrought iron metal railings or gate. It involves immersing the product in molten zinc at temperatures of around 450°C, which gives it maximum protection against corrosion. It's then coated with paint in the form of a very fine powder, for a superior finish.
